After a weekend of antisemitic messages, Kanye West's accounts on Twitter and Instagram were locked.
According to the latest information provided by a representative for Instagram parent company Meta that the platform had restricted Kanye West's account in addition to removing information from his profile that broke its rules. On Monday, a spokesman for Twitter confirmed that West's account had been locked due to a rule violation.
According to NBC, last week, musician Kanye West posted a copy of an antisemitic text conversation he sent to Sean 'Diddy' Combs in which West claimed that Combs was under the control of Jews. West's Instagram grid no longer features the post.
According to internet archive data examined by the Associated Press, West vowed to 'go death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE' after a response to his Instagram post. The since-deleted post appeared to relate to the DEFCON rating system for military readiness in the US.
West said in the same tweet, 'You people have been playing with me and trying to black ball anyone who opposes your plan.'
It's unknown how long West's Twitter and Instagram accounts will be subject to limitations. The hip-hop artist hadn't published anything on either site since Saturday as of Monday morning.
This is not the first time a social networking site has penalised West. After Grammy winner Kanye West called 'Daily Show' anchor Trevor Noah a racist, Instagram suspended him earlier this year. Instagram may temporarily ban violators from posting, commenting, or sending direct messages, according to a Meta spokeswoman. West asked Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg on Twitter, 'How you going to remove me off Instagram?' following his most recent Instagram suspension.
Shortly after Combs openly disapproved of the 'Gold Digger' singer's choice to wear a 'White Lives Matter' shirt to Paris Fashion Week, West had an anti-Semitic rant. West defended the act after receiving harsh criticism from the fashion industry and others and referred to the Black Lives Matter movement as 'a hoax.'
The Black Lives Matter Grassroots organisation opposed West and conservative commentator Candace Owens wearing the 'White Lives Matter' shirts in Paris, according to a statement given last week to TMZ. The social justice organisation claimed that white supremacists and hate groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan, have long adopted the phrases 'White Lives Matter' and 'All Lives Matter' as violent responses to the Black Lives Matter campaign.
